Aaron Boone will be back as the New York Yankees manager for his eighth season, the team announced Friday after picking up his 2025 option.
Boone has gone 603-429 over his tenure in New York, which has been under constant scrutiny by fans because he has not won a World Series, though he led the Yankees to the AL pennant, three wins shy of their 28th title, this season.

RESTORING THE GLORY
“I am grateful for the trust placed in me to lead this team. It’s a responsibility – and an opportunity – that I will never take lightly,” Boone said in a statement. “It’s a great privilege to show up for work every day and be surrounded by so many determined and talented players, coaches and staff members. … I’m already looking forward to reporting for spring training in Tampa and working tirelessly to return the Yankees to the postseason to compete for a World Championship.”
Boone’s return in 2025 was never truly in doubt, especially as he presided over a team that made a deep postseason run, the sixth time in seven seasons he reached the playoffs. New York lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. General manager Brian Cashman said at the GM meetings this week that he was a “big Aaron Boone fan,” and it seemed like a matter of time before Boone’s Yankees future was announced.
Now, the question will be whether Boone eventually lands an extension or manages this year without job security as the Yankees aim to win their first championship since 2009.
“Aaron is a steadying presence in our clubhouse and possesses a profound ability to connect with and foster relationships with his players,” Cashman said. “Consistently exhibiting these skills in such a demanding and pressurized market is what makes him one of the game’s finest managers. Our work is clearly not done, but as we pursue the ultimate prize in 2025, I am excited to have Aaron back to lead our team.”
